SBTi Approves Sylvamo's Greenhouse Gas Targets

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) recently approved Sylvamo's science-based targets for corporate greenhouse gas emissions.

The world's paper company submitted two annual greenhouse gas inventories for review last year. SBTi found the two proposed targets meet all criteria in line with reducing global warming well below 2 degrees Celsius, which is in line with the Paris Agreement.

The approved target states, "Sylvamo commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 28.1% by 2030 from a 2019 base year.* Sylvamo commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 27.5% by 2030 from a 2019 base year. *The target boundary includes land-related emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks."

The SBTi mobilizes companies to set science-based targets and boost their competitive advantage in transitioning to the low-carbon economy. It is a partnership between the Carbon Disclosure Project, United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute and World Wide Fund for Nature.​
